From industrial maintenance to the house down the road
Sipho Ndlovu started his apprenticeship in Wilsonia in 1996, on maintenance electrical work in a factory where a board that tripped cost money by the minute. Eleven years of that teaches you to find a fault rather than guess at it, and it teaches you to label things, because the next person to open that board at two in the morning might not be you.
He went out on his own in 2014, expecting industrial work to follow him. Most of what came instead was domestic: houses in Vincent and Berea with boards that had been added to for thirty years, no earth leakage protection, and nothing labelled. Several were genuinely dangerous, and almost none had a compliance certificate that matched what was actually installed.
So that is the work we do now, and we do it the way the factory taught. Test properly, label everything, quote in writing, and issue the certificate only for an installation we have actually inspected. We stay small on purpose. Three electricians means the person who quoted your job is the one standing in your roof.
